Beads

All of the beads you will find on this website are handmade by me, Shannon, using a Minor torch with an oxygen conentrator.  All the beads are batch annealed, which means that the beads cool in a fibreglass blanket and a group of them are put into a digitally controlled kiln starting at room temperature and slowly brought up to annealing temperature (about 940*f).  My annealing cycle has them hold at the high temperature soak for an hour, relieving the glass of any possible stress between layers.  The beads are then slowly brought down to 750*f and held there are another half hour before the kiln slowly ramps back down to room temperature.  The entire process takes about 12 hours.

  Swirl 1 Swirl 2 Swirl 3 Swirl 4
This bead is made from clear Moretti/Effetre glass with a liberal sprinkling of pixie dust in between layers of crystal clear glass.  The surface decorations include instense black frit and blue aventurine sparkle frit with raised surface swirls all over the bead. This bead would be stunning as the focal of an elaborate necklace of on a simple sterling chain or leather chord.
The bead measures 16mm wide at its widest, 20mm from hole to hole, with a 3mm hole that has been cleaned with a diamond reamer bit on a Dremel tool.

  Starfish 1  Starfish 2  Starfish 3
This drop style pendant has a raku starfish design on top of a black background, to really make the colours 'pop'.  The pendant is made with Moretti/Effetre glass on a 3/32 madrel.  This bead would look great on a simple black leather chord or maybe as a focal in a string of black lava beads.  The bead measures 15mm at its widest, 36mm tall, with a 3mm hole that has been cleaned with a diamond reamer bit on a Dremel tool.

  Rainbow1   Rainbow3  Rainbow2 Rainbow4
This was one of my  favourite beads to make - and still is.  With a mixture of Moretti/Effetre greens, blues and shimmering 'odd lot' yellow swirled into a storm of colour, this bead is ready to be paired up with any number of colour combinations.
The bead measures 24 mm from hole to hole, 12mm wide, 23 mm tall, with a 3mm hole that has been cleaned with a diamond reamer bit on a Dremel tool.

Green flower1   Green flower 4  Green flower2  Green flower 3
This is one of my 'Spring Series' beads.  A bit late for Spring, I know, but looking at the bead still makes me think of happy little flowers showing their faces for the first time of the year.  These bright yellow and red buds are on a clear emerald green bead that is ridiculously touchable with its smooth, curved texture.
The bead measures 27mm from hole to hole, 18mm wide, 7mm tall, with a 3mm hole that has been cleaned with a diamond reamer bit on a Dremel tool.
